The new Avaluator 3.0 Avalanche Accident Prevention Method contains a user guide, a Trip Planner card, and a Slope Evaluator card to help you make more informed decisions before and during your time in avalanche terrain. This new edition now gives you a Slope Evaluator card to carry with you alongside the Trip Planner. We also made some changes to the terrain characteristics section to incorporate the most up-to-date research.
It’s designed to be used in two stages: planning the trip at home and making decisions on a slope-by-slope basis. The first card—the Trip Planner—guides the user in choosing an objective appropriate to the current conditions and the individual’s and group’s comfort level and abilities. The second stage—the Slope Evaluator—provides a structured approach for assessing the suitability of a slope based on avalanche conditions and terrain characteristics.
You can easily spend a lifetime developing your avalanche safety skills. The Avaluator will help you avoid the most obvious mistakes and start you on a path of learning and practising safe winter travel habits. The Avaluator is a required course material for students enrolled in Avalanche Skills Training 1 recreational avalanche courses.
